Muhammad Ali<\/a>, born Cassius Clay, Jr., passed away in 2016, aged 74, at a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, due to a respiratory disease.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Ali refused to fight in the Vietnam war and he cited religious reasons for that. He outlines the reasons in the following words:<\/p>\n
“My conscience won\u2019t let me go shoot my brother, or some darker people, or some poor hungry people in the mud for big powerful America. And shoot them for what? They never called me nigger, they never lynched me, they didn\u2019t put no dogs on me, they didn\u2019t rob me of my nationality, rape and kill my mother and father\u2026 Shoot them for what? \u2026How can I shoot them poor people, just take me to jail.”<\/p>\n
