Why does Islam prohibit a Muslim to drink alcohol?
Allah says in the Qur’an:
O you who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination – of Satan’s handiwork; eschew such (abomination), that you may prosper. (Al-Ma’idah 5:90)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Alcohol is the mother of all evils and it is the most shameful of evils.” (Ibn-I-Majah)
But is Islam the only religion that prohibits drinking alcohol? What do other scriptures say about that? Is there a mention in the Bible, for example, about this?
And why is alcohol prohibited in the first place?
Isn’t alcoholic initially a social drinker? And if one has self-control and never gets intoxicated, why cannot they drink?
While a drunk person might occasionally show self-control and behave well, it’s often inconsistent due to the effects of alcohol on decision-making and impulse control. This inconsistency is why addiction rehabilitation services are so important. These services provide individuals with the tools and support needed to regain control over their actions and make healthier choices, even when faced with challenging situations like intoxication. Through addiction rehabilitation, people can learn strategies to manage their behaviors effectively and lead a more balanced, fulfilling life.
