Performing Ghusl After Visiting A Gynecologist: Necessary?

Performing Ghusl After Visiting A Gynecologist

Question:

Does a woman have to perform ghusl (ritual bath) if she visits a gynecologist?

Answer:

In the name of Allah, we praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.

Purification (taharah) is one of the most important duties for the Muslim. It means cleanliness of the mind, soul, body and clothes. The Muslim should keep his body and clothes clean by washing them regularly. If the Muslim is not in state of taharah (pure), he cannot offer prayer or touch the mushaf (copy of the Qur’an). The Muslim should always stay clean and remain close to those who are pure and clean.

Ghusl is one of the basics of cleanliness in Islam. It is known as washing the whole body with pure water. There are some incidents which obligate taking a ritual bath:

1- Sexual intercourse even without ejaculation,

2- Emission of sperm with lust, from a man or woman,

3- After the period of menstruation,

4- Post-natal bleeding.
