Kabir Das and One God

English Translation by Editorial Staff

Even the great religious leaders of India acknowledge that (Ishvar) God is one.  If you ask Kabir Das (1398–1448 A.D.) and if you ask Ramanuja, the teacher of Kabir Das who preached his entire life that God is one Who is free from shape and form.

Kabir Das
the founder of the Hindu sect; Kabir Panthi, who tried to combine the principles of the Hinduism and Islam.

The great figures of Hinduism always declared that God is one. For example, if you ask Swami Vivekananda (1863 –1902 A.D.), you will find that he endlessly preached his whole life that God is one. Do you know what Swami Vivekananda has said about  Islam?

If you ask Kabir Das, saying: Kabir Das! What do you say about God and what is your philosophy about God, he will say: let me sing his poem:

I am talking about la ilaha illalahu (There is absolutely no deity worthy of worship except Allah) after that I will talk about Muhammadur-Rasulullah (Muhammad (peace be upon him)) is the Messenger of Allah). The Kalimah of Islam is: La Ilaha IllAllah Muhammadur Rasulullah. How wonderful is the Kalimah or the basic word of Islam! The teachings of Kalimah are available everywhere and can be seen anywhere.

Please, listen what Kabir Das has said about the One God:

“दुनिया बड़ी बावरी, पत्थर पूजने जाए |

घर की चक्की कोई न पूजे जिसका पीसा खाए ||”

(The world is very foolish because it worships stone, and no one worships millstones in the house that grinds and they eat from it.)

Guru Nanak Ji and Idol-worship

And Guru Nanak (1469 –1539 A.D.) from the land of Punjab says:

ਅੰਧੇ ਗੁੰਗੇ ਅੰਧ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥ ਪਾਥਰੁ ਲੇ ਪੂਜਹਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥

ਓਹਿ ਜਾ ਆਪਿ ਡੁਬੇ ਤੁਮ ਕਹਾ ਤਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

(The ignorant fools pick up stones and worship them. But when those stones themselves sink, who will carry you across?)

O brothers! What will you get from the worship of devi and devta? These idols of stones sink in the water when they are thrown into it. If they themselves sink then how can they bring others to the seashore?

As Islam says that God is one; Ishvar is one and commands to worship only one God, the same has been taught by the Indian ancient scriptures. The Indian scriptures have declared that Ishvar is one; no other deity is beside God.

The Atharva Veda, Kand2, Sukt2, Mantr 1 says:

भुवनस्य य: पति: सारे ब्रह्माण्ड के जो रक्षक हैं वे (एक: एव) अदितीय प्रभु ही (नमस्य:) नमस्कार के योग्य हैं ।

The Protector of the entire universe is One, and He is the Only One Who deserves all kinds of worship.

La ilaha illallah” There is no deity but God.
