Menstruation & Irregular Bleeding
Question:
My menstruation usually lasts for 5 days or maximum 6 days, but this time it exceeded the regular number of days!. Am I still in my menses or would it be treated as an irregular bleeding?
Answer:
Once the late Saudi scholar Ibn `Uthaymeen was asked about the exact number of days for the minimum or maximum length of menses.
He said: “There is no definitive number of days for the minimum or maximum length of menses, because Allah Almighty says:
And they ask you about menstruation. Say, “It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has ordained for you. (Al-Baqarah 2:222)
Therefore, Allah does not specify the period of abstention with a certain number of days, rather He states that it ends when a woman becomes pure.”
Dr. Muhammad Salah states that the menstruation period varies from a woman to another. There are some women whose menses is only 5 days while others could go beyond ten days.
